It seeks to explore and compare whether students perceive the same benefit of code-switching as the teacher does. This study investigates a teacher’s and three students’ perspectives on shared instances of code-switching practices in a Malaysian multilingual primary classroom. Therefore, it can give chance to other researchers to find the reason of using code-switching used by Sacha Stevenson which can be applied by observing and interviewing her immediately This research cannot do a direct interview with Sacha Stevenson.
The functions of code-switching found in both data sources are covering the difficulty in speaking Indonesian, reducing or avoiding face and increasing prestige to be viewed as an educated person and covering inability in speaking Indonesian.
The result shows that the types of code-switching found in both sources are intra-sentential code-switching, inter-sentential code-switching and establishing continuity toward previous speaker emblematic or tag-switching. In order to collect the data, the writer compiles videos based on the sequence and the context of the conversation. In order to find the type and the function of code-switching used, the writer uses descriptive qualitative approach. Tonight Show and Sarah Sechan are two popular talk shows on NET TV. This research investigates the use of types and functions of code-switching used by Sacha Stevenson as a guest star in Tonight Show and Sarah Sechan on NET TV. Also, it intends to convey the purposes and intentions of the speakers such as confirming information and maintaining cultures The cause of the code switching relates to closeness between the speakers and the partners, prestige, popular terms. In the domain of friendship, there are switches on the language of Indonesian, English, Arabic, Javanese, Sundanese, and Malay. It is occupied in order to clarify the sender messages. However, the dominant pattern of code switching used by female students is Intersentensial switching. The result of this study shows that the code switching patterns includes Intersentensial switching, Intrasentensial switching, and Tag switching. Further, they are analysed by the use of Hymes, (1996) ethnography method of communication. Meanwhile, the data are populated by using the techniques of observation, recording, and interview. The data are derived from the verbal interaction among the female students in Islamic school. This research aims to reveal the code switching patterns by female students in daily communication in Islamic school Al-Mukmin Ngruki Islamic Boarding School and Assalaam Islamic Modern Boarding School in Indonesia, and the factors affecting the occurrence of code switching in daily basis communication in Islamic boarding school. The multi-ethnic and multi-lingual society of Islamic boarding school students (santri) involves the occurrence of code switching.
